All About English...
Jr. High English is sure to bring out the writer in you. I hope to help you become a confident writer, that can fully express yourself through words. I hope that you build on your grammar foundation over the years to completely understand the way words, phrases, and clauses come together. We will have Daily Oral Language to reinforce all of those important skills and write, write, write. You will also have many opportunities to creatively express yourself through projects. All I will ever ask is that you believe in yourself and never be afraid to try, even if you fail. Looking forward to an amazing year, with days filled with academic and personal growth.
Assignments and Projects
Our grammar assignments consist of our Daily Oral Language, written and identified sentences, diagramming sentences, proofreading and punctuation. For our writing assignments, the students must follow the writing process. Our written assignments consist of all types of writings, paragraphs, essays, research reports, articles, poetry, letters, creative stories, etc. We will also do many creative projects. Our projects consist of class presentations, digital writings, brochures, public speaking, plays, and collaborative work online and across curriculum, etc. We also read a book together each year that can be used for AR.
Tests and Quizzes
English quizzes and tests will be given while covering DLR, grammar and punctuation. Test dates will be posted for students at school and in Renweb. Please be aware that there is not a major English test every week. There are weekly quizzes covering Daily Language Review on Fridays, and every 2 to 4 weeks, there will be a major DLR test covering that content. Many of their major and minor grades also come from writing. Each assignment and project will be graded using a specific rubric or detailed checklist given to the students with their assignment requirements.
Homework
Any homework given will be posted in Renweb. Please note that any homework posted in Renweb is subject to change. Daily Language Review for the following day should be completed each night, or your child may choose to complete it all for the week. The students will be given daily assignments in class. If time does not permit completion on that day, they will have to complete the assignment at home. They will also work on writing assignments and projects at home throughout the year.
